A very special Screen on the Green will be brought to you on July 21stat Sutter’s Landing Park with a night of audience participation!  Festivities begin at 9:00 p.m. with fun from “Movies on a Big Screen” and a beer garden sponsored by Hoppy Brewing Company.  The Rocky Horror Picture Show will be shown at Midnight and you are encouraged to wear costumes and bring props for this over-the-top movie!

River Park Neighborhood Association (RPNA) Raises Funds for Recreation Swim Hours

Once again due to budget cuts, limited programs were being offered at Glenn Hall pool, including swim lessons and swim teams but no recreation swim hours.  The River Park Neighborhood Association has once again stepped up to the plate with a fundraising effort and together with a Pops in the Park grant and a $1000 contribution from the Q-Balls, will offer recreation swim beginning on Friday, June 29 through Sunday August 19, on Fridays and Sundays from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Eat for a Cause – July 7

McDonald’s at 3006 K St. is helping to raise funds to restore Clunie Community Center. The locally-owned franchise will donate a portion of its lunch sales on the first Saturday of each month to the community’s efforts to restore the building. In June the franchise donated $390.  So onSaturday, July 7, from noon to 2:00 p.m., get your lunch at McDonald’s and support Clunie Center.

Taste of East Sac – July 8

The fourth annual Taste of East Sac, a wine and food tasting event, will be held Sunday, July 8, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Shepard Garden and Arts Center.  The tasting is presented by East Sacramento Chamber of Commerce, with proceeds benefiting Pops in the Park.  Tickets are $30 in advance and $40 at the door.  For information on the event or how to purchase tickets, call 452-8011 or e-maileastsacchamber@aol.com.

Garden and Art Center to Hold Annual Meeting – July 14

Shepard Garden and Arts Center will hold its annual meeting Saturday, July 14, at 10:00 a.m.  New board members will be elected. If you are interested in serving on the board or learning more about the organization, go to sgaac.org or call Ken Rothaus at 446-2221. Shepard Garden and Arts Center is home to more than 50 garden and art clubs. It is at 3330 McKinley Blvd.

Fab 40’s 5K Run/Walk – July 14

East Lawn presents the Fab 40’s 5K Run/Walk benefitting local Alzheimer’s agencies on Saturday, July 14, 8:00 a.m.  Meet at East Lawn Memorial Park, 43rd Street and Folsom Boulevard at 8:00 a.m.  For more information, visit www.eastlawn.com or www.fab40s5k.org.  You can also view the Alzheimer’s Memorial Wall located at East Lawn Memorial Park and join in by supporting Alzheimer’s awareness by having a loved-ones name engraved on the beautiful granite wall.   Alzheimer’s disease is the sixth leading cause of death in the U.S.

Glenn Hall Park Work Day – July 21

On Saturday, July 21, from 9:00 a.m. to noon, volunteers are needed to help improve Glenn Hall Park. Projects will include pruning and trimming the hedges and planting the flower beds.  While some equipment and garden supplies will be provided, volunteers are asked to bring a pair of garden gloves, a hat and a water bottle. The organizers also ask volunteers to bring hedge shears if they have them.   R.S.V.P.s are requested, though drop-in help will also be appreciated.  For more information, contact Jeff Harris at cadence@surewest.net.
