Growing the Canopy, One Tree at a Time

Nearly 70 volunteers gathered near the horseshoe pits at McKinley Park for a highly successful community tree-planting event. Working together, participants planted 14 new trees, including Cedrus deodara (Deodar Cedar) and Laurus nobilis (Bay Laurel)—a meaningful step toward strengthening the park’s long-term canopy and resilience.

This event reflects a strong partnership between East Sacramento Preservation Neighborhood Association, Sacramento City Parks, Urban Forestry Arborists, Sacramento Tree Foundation, and SMUD, all working together to restore and enhance McKinley Park’s tree canopy.

The energy, teamwork, and shared commitment made for a memorable day.

Beware of Marathon Delays Sunday, December 7th, 2025

The California International Marathon will run on Sunday, December 7th, 2025, causing some intersections to be closed. The race starts at 7am near Folsom Dam and travels Oak Avenue, Fair Oaks Blvd, and J Street to the Capitol. Intersections will be closed only while the race comes through, but be prepared, if necessary, to leave home early and avoid the race course during any errands that morning.
