Contact Person: Nancy Wolford-Landers (916) 457-3002 odlizzie@surewest.net
Sacramento Soroptimist clubs established a See’s Candy store in Loehmann’s Plaza at the corner of Fair Oaks Blvd. and Munroe Street. The store is located at 521 Munroe Street, and will feature a broad selection of See’s candy. The store will be open from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., seven days a week from December 1st until December 24th, and will be staffed entirely by Soroptimist member volunteers.
The candy will be sold at regular See’s candy retail prices and all the profits from the store will fund Soroptimist programs to assist at risk women and children. Members of the public are encouraged to come by the store to do their holiday candy shopping.
Now when you buy your See’s Candy for the holidays you can help provide services to disadvantaged children and women here in the Sacramento area as well as around the world.
This is the fifth straight year Soroptimist International of Sacramento and Soroptimist International of Sacramento South (service clubs for business and professional women) will be raising money by selling See’s Candy to fund their service programs.
One such program will help Foster Youth escape the cycle of Foster Care by funding a mentoring program to prepare them for college. Other programs being helped by the candy sales will be scholarships and grants to young people in Sacramento area schools, aid to the Crisis Nurseries, assistance to WEAVE, My Sister’ House, and Women’s Empowerment.
The Soroptimist Club was established here in Sacramento in 1923 and is part of a worldwide federation of service clubs whose mission is to improve the lives and women and children.
Juno’s Kitchen and Delicatessen Wows East Sacramento
Some times we’re lucky. With the addition of Juno’s to East Sacramento we’re also blessed.
Four-star chef Mark Helms trained his eye on producing perfect sandwiches and soups. His sandwiches are first-rate, but the soup, well… first some background. Since Chef Pont sold La Bonne Soupe, Sacramento has keened for an original, top-notch soup destination. Mourn no longer. Twice last week ESP had Juno soups—cauliflower beef and a corn, potato chowder. Hallelujah, we’ve been saved. The recipes are original and the execution sublime.
Did I mention the bread? Well, memories of France danced in my head as I walked home with a crinkling brown bag, oozing wafts of freshly baked dough. Le pain was light, fresh and still warm.
Juno’s is one of our newest, locally owned businesses. Thanks to Chef Helms for choosing a walkable, East Sacramento location.
