Speeding on residential streets puts pedestrians, cyclists, and families at risk. To raise awareness and encourage safer driving, Slow Down Sacramento is launching the “20 Is Plenty” lawn sign campaign.
Why 20 MPH Matters
Lower speeds significantly improve safety. A pedestrian hit at 20 mph has a much higher chance of survival than one struck at 30 mph or higher. Slower speeds mean:
- Fewer crashes – More time for drivers to react.
- Less severe injuries – Reduced impact force.
- Safer neighborhoods – Walkability and bikeability improve.
