East Sacramento Preservation Supports McKinley Park Tree Workshop
Trees of McKinley Park – Free Workshop
The public is invited to attend a free tree care workshop to learn about caring for the trees of McKinley Park. Master Arborist, Susan Sims, will be discussing plant biology and offering a prescription for park canopy health and well-being on Saturday February 5, 8:30 am-12:30 pm at the Clunie Community Center, 601 Alhambra Boulevard, Sacramento 95816. Weather permitting, Ms. Sims will provide a tour of McKinley Park’s trees of significance. This workshop is ideal for frequent visitors to the park, local residents, and those interested in arboriculture or mature tree care.
McKinley Park is one of Sacramento’s oldest and most popular parks. The 31.9 acres of urban park include the Clunie Clubhouse and McKinley Library, a pond, jogging trails, and a large inventory of elm, sycamore, maple, eucalyptus and other large canopy trees.
Susan Sims is an Agricultural Biologist, ISA Board Certified Master Arborist, CaUFC Certified Urban Forester, Agricultural Advisor & applicator. Specializing in tree health, preservation and education, Susan and her husband have owned Sims Tree Health Specialists since 1972 and the Sims Tree Learning Center since 1996. Susan received her degree from Cal Poly, Pomona, majoring in Agricultural Biology and minoring in Plant pathology and Ornamental Horticulture.
The February 5th public workshop is free, but limited to 50 guests. Please contact the Sacramento Tree Foundation to RSVP. (916) 924-8733 or supportus@sactree.com.

East Sacramento Preservation Promotes Harvest Sacramento
Most of us have them. Delicious low hanging fruit and high unreachable delights. Sadly, much of the East Sacramento harvest goes to waste. Harvest Sacramento is an urban food recovery group started by two East Sacramentans, Mary McGrath and Robin Aurelius. The organization will pick your fruit and get it to those in need. Let’s get as much viable fruit harvested this year. Harvest Sacramento plans an East Sac pick in January and then again in February. Call or email to volunteer or to be “picked:”
