City of Sacramento, California…at your service

The City of Sacramento Department of Utilities announces a Spare the Water Alert through August 14, 2012. Spare the Water Alerts are declared when three consecutive days of 100+ degree temperatures are forecasted. With the current forecasted temperatures at or above 100 degrees through the weekend, the City is asking customers to voluntarily cut back on their non-essential water use, to follow the City’s watering rules, and only water on their watering days and to water lawns before 10 a.m. and after 7 p.m.

“When temperatures reach their peak, the demand for water stretches the City’s treatment and pumping abilities. While the City doesn’t expect to have supply issues, the extended stretch of high temperatures can push our equipment to its limit. High temperatures are a good reminder of how precious a resource water is and why we need to conserve it,” said Michael Malone, Field Services Manager for the Department of Utilities.

Suggested ways that customers can save water on Spare the Water Days:

• Follow the City’s Watering Rules. Water lawns and gardens before 10 a.m. or after 7 p.m. and water only on scheduled watering days (for a complete schedule see www.SpareSacWater.org)
• Cut back irrigation watering 1-2 minutes per station can save up to 250 gallons of water per cycle
• Run major appliances with full loads before 10 a.m. or after 7 p.m. for optimum water and energy savings
• Consider washing cars on cooler days
• Turn off the faucet while brushing teeth, washing hands or scrubbing dishes.

National Night Out was a great success! East Sacramento Preservation’s ice cream social hosted more than 50 neighbors through out the night. Local public servants attended as well.
