Act Now to Protect Our Parkway

Our heritage, our jewel—The American River Parkway

Cyclists are mugged, held at gunpoint, dodge thrown rocks, bikes and garbage. It’s not in the most dangerous city in the world. It’s on our jewel, The American River Parkway/Bike Trail.

You can help keep the parkway safe. Go the mayor’s town meeting today, September 15, 2011 and ask him to help.

Use your five minutes with the Mayor to discuss safety on the American River bike trail, particularly near Discovery Park.  Due to budget cuts, Sacramento County cut the number of Rangers patrolling the American River Parkway.  Many link the decreased patrolling to increased incidents of violence on the Parkway.  Remind Mayor Johnson that the American River Parkway is a community asset and ask him to partner with the County to return the patrol to the level prior to the cuts.

Mayor Johnson’s office hours are this Thursday, September 15, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Evelyn Moore Community Center, 1402 Dickson Street.  Please arrive as close to 5:00 p.m. as possible. Also please wear a black shirt or a bicycle jersey.

If you can’t make the meeting, email the mayor with your concerns!
